A Quick Update of My Life Over This 2.5 Years

It's have been 2 years and 8 months since I last blog about anything in this blog. Looking back on my record, I gradually reduces my post from 79 posts in year 2009 to 42 posts in year 2010, then 9 post in year 2011, 4 posts in year 2012, and 1 post in year 2013. After the post in year 2013, I have started a new chapter of my life. I take a leap of faith and courage to step out of my comfort zone. That is one of the reason why I did not take the time to blog anything, other than I totally set blogging aside.

In May 2013, I took a big change in my life by stepping out from being an employee to become an entrepreneur with Douglas. I used to work with him in the same company before, and we attend the same church, same cell group, and we are best friend as well. This changes have a huge impact in my life and it does grow me to who I am today. He still remains as a best friend and I do hope it will never change.

We started our coffee journey by taking up a local coffee brand as we have literally no experience in the art of making coffee. With their help, we learned that there is a lot to learn and work for to be an accountable and reputable café in town. Although we did not have a great experience working with them after half a year into operation, we are grateful because of that, we swore to be better that bring us to what we are today.

After about a year, we departed from them and built our new brand together with some new investors and partners. Since then, we have been operating under the new café brand till today for slightly over a year. A lot of great and bad experience throughout this journey, and I appreciate that the Lord keeps shining His blessing over me.

Since this post should be a quick overall update of what has been happening around me over the 2 years plus, I will keep things short and simple. Hopefully I can post more post in the future to talk about it and new stuff that happening around me.

In year 2013, I had an opportunity to visit London, England and Milan, Italy for the International Hospitality Exhibition - Fiera Milano (HOST) held in Milan itself. I got to visit Singapore for the Food and Hospitality Asia (FHA) Expo in 2014, and travel to Melbourne on the same year. This year, I got another opportunity to travel far, which is to Seattle, Washington, USA for Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Expo and the World Barista Championship. Not to mention some local short trip to learn about coffee at Johor Bahru and Penang.

As for more personal vacation travel, I travelled to Siem Reap, Cambodia in 2012, Bangkok in 2013, Taiwan in 2014, and Hong Kong and Macau this year. Planning to go to Perth next year though. Since I have been in the café business for awhile, since 2014, my trips have include some café hopping in those places that I visited. I have tried coffee in several café around Taiwan and Hong Kong.

I have made new friends, meet back some old friends and reconnect with them, and I lost some old friends too. It's part of life that nobody is for sure to be there for you forever, except the Lord. My sister is finally in college, taking the course of interior architecture. My brother is working now with Honda service centre in Petaling Jaya. I traded in my old car for a new car this year. I think that's all about the major things happened around me this period of time I'm not active here.

Mum's Birthday

Yesterday my family and I went to Mid Valley to celebrate my mum's birthday in advance. I snapped some nice picture of her having her dinner with us together as a family. Although I come up with most of the sum for the dinner, but seeing my mum putting a big smile on her face already worth it back.

I'm didn't get her anything this year. Just manage to treat her a nice dinner together with our family that's all. However she got herself a nice bag and my sister got her something cheap as well. Well, it's not about the price of the gift but the value of remember and cherish each other. I just hope my mum enjoy her day. I love you, mum!!

My Cousin, Kian Loong's Wedding Dinner

I just get home from (Kian Loong) my cousin's wedding dinner. It does look kind of nice decoration for the entire wedding dinner but I still feel boring. Maybe it's the same old routine of the Chinese wedding dinner with the 'Yum Seng' session which I personally find it old fashion.

Above are some of the photos I manage to take during the dinner. Mind the quality as I do not own a digital camera. All I can do is to take it with my camera phone. Although I do not really enjoy much, however it does not kills me. LOL.

All I can say is that I wish them having a great time ahead with each other and hope the will be loving each other. May God bless them and may they continue their next chapter of their life.

Not So Nice Start Tiger Year of Me

Happy Chinese New Year to all. It's another great year and this year is a very special year for all born on the year of tiger as this year is the tiger year. Roar, roar, roar all the tigers out there. May all of you have a great year and roaring successes.

Back to me myself, today is not that lucky day for me. Early in the morning, my car have a flatten tyre. To make the matter worst, I took out my container which containing the tool to change the spare tyre due to lack of space in my car boot. I took me almost half an hour to fix it since I have to walk back home to get the tools and luckily I just drove like 1km away from my house before I realise my tyre flatten.

As the tradition of my family, we will required to gather around with the others at my grandpa's house before getting to the next location. However, this year something is not so right. My grandpa went missing. Ended up what I realised was that my grandpa having some issue with my uncles or stuff and he is not planning to attend the gathering for CNY.

I do not know why, but I do not really enjoy CNY celebration. It's either I'm too old for it as it does not amaze me except for the red packet that I will be receiving or perhaps I do not like the boring routine of the visits. I do not enjoy being surround by many people, yet most you do not even know their names, and they are like stranger to you. Probably I am not the family kinda guy.

I guess I will prefer to be celebrating with my nucleus family. It's much simpler. Not to forget, the market is killing as we queue for the roasted pork today. I'm not that fancy of roasted pork. If not due to prayer, I will drag my mother away and ask her not to buy it. It's irritating to wait for it for hours. I guess I will not be doing such prayers when I owned my own house.

CNY sure cannot miss out some gambling. My family did go and buy lucky numbers (4D Magnum) this morning, giving ourselves some hope of being lucky. LOL. However, we did not gamble in real with the rest of the relative, such as playing poker or blackjack or mahjong. I know some family will do that as a routine. At least my friends did as one of them, when I called him, he was gambling at that time. LOL.

Of all the not so positive things I throw out here (as if like I treat my blog space as a garbage area), hope all those bad stuff go far away and more positive 'chi' is coming my family way and all my friends way too. I wish all of you to have a great and prosperous tiger year. Roar~~

Mid Autumn Festival

The Mid Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, or in Chinese, 中秋節 (Zhongqiu Jie), is a popular harvest festival celebrated by Chinese and other people in the world (even though they celebrate it differently), dating back over 3,000 years to moon worship in China's Shang Dynasty. It was first called 中秋節 (Zhongqiu Jie), which literally means Mid-Autumn Festival in the Zhou Dynasty. In Malaysia, Singapore and Philipines, it is also sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar (lunar calender), which is usually around late September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. It is a date that parallels the autumn and spring Equinoxes of the solar calendar, when the moon is supposedly at its fullest and roundest. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties.

Traditionally, on this day, Chinese family members and friends will gather to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, and eat moon cakes and pomelos together. Accompanying the celebration, there are additional cultural or regional customs, such as eating mooncake outside under the moon, carrying brightly lit lanterns, etc.

***************************************************************

This year Mid Autumn Festival as usual, I guess I will be celebrating at home with my family where we gather for a dinner only. Those mooncake eating and playing with candles and lantern are not really my thing. So most probably after 9pm, I'll be darn bored.

Today is Mid Autumn Festival Eve, which is also my mother's birthday according to the Chinese lunar calendar (not the Gregorian calendar which my mother falls on 7th of October). This evening my family will be going out for dinner at some vegetarian restaurant nearby my area.

Family Photo + Convocation Photo in Studio

During my convocation day on the 9th of August, my family went for a photography session at a studio near my home (not to say very near, it's at Mega Mendung area). I just got the photos yesterday. I was lazy to blog so I blog about it today. I'm not going to take picture of the photo and post it but directly from the CD that I ask them to burn for me (at least I can rewash some of it if I need extra).

I guess nothing much I can say about the photos. So I just post it here to share with you guys. My mother picked so many pictures, especially those with me alone only. Family photo only two. LOL.

A Treat Before Convocation

Today, the eve of my own very convocation day. LOL. I did a lot of things this week. In my previous blog, I did mention that I went for facial spa, then i did my hair cut, get my convocation gown etc., and of course some of my own stuff. As usual, I went for gym and my dancing class. Too bad, tomorrow I gotta skip this week class for my convocation.

This morning, I went to Fitness First, The Curve to work out with Douglas. I joined that RPM class which I didn't go for it before. It's pretty good actually cause it does really make me sweat. However, I would only join once a week I guess next time. I don't want to kill all my calories, ended up getting thinner. LOL. After the gym, I got treated lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., and the experience is amazing. The food there is great. I guess you would hardly get disappointed dining there, just it might burn a hole in your wallet.

If you gonna ask me how good it is, I have to ask you go and try yourself. It's good until I forgot to even take some photos of it. LOL. That's a lie. Actually I'm starving that time and totally forgot to capture some for my blog. If I have a chance to dine there again, I will capture some (provided I have the budget to dine). Luckily this is a treat, or else I'll be washing plates there.

It's just another 10 hours, my convocation is going to be held in Wisma MCA. I'm happy that my family are coming, I'll meet back most of my course mates. Maybe take some photos and I guess it will be last one that we all will be taking together. After that, I'll be taking graduation photo with family back at my area. I think it's cheaper than the one offer in UTAR.

Discharge

At last, today my aunt discharged from Assunta. I went all the way to Assunta to help her with the discharge procedures. Then drive her back to Kepong before I back home meet Jetky. At Assunta, I meet Wynne unexpectedly. Didn't know I will bump into her.

When to Mid Valley with Jetky doing nothing, just eat Sushi King and that's it. What a boring day? All I have for today is muscle soreness due to yesterday gym. I wanna curse people already. Haha.

Aunt Eva Admitted to Assunta

Yesterday, I take my aunt to Assunta. She was admitted there around 2pm. She is having her operation today morning, to remove the fibroid (a growth) on her uterus. Yesterday, it was the first time I step into the Maternity Ward of Assunta. Haha. I drove all the way to Kepong to meet up my aunt first, then only drove directly to Assunta Hospital. Then help her with the administration procedures and the admission to the ward. Then after awhile, I went home, leaving her alone there for the medical check ups.

Then at night, I gotta fetch my Mum and sister to visit my aunt. We got her some magazines so that she won't be too boring after the operation. I heard that she need to stay there for almost 5 days at least. I hope she recover soon. Pity her alone there now. I think her operation is almost done by now.

Tonight, I gotta fetch my Mum and sister to visit her again. Same goes to tomorrow and the day after tomorrow I guess. Perhaps these few days also. When she able to discharge from Assunta, I'll need to fetch my aunt back to Kepong. So this few days I guess I almost act as a driver to my family.

I gotta submit my softcopy of my thesis back to UTAR latest next week. I still haven't burn the disc yet. Haha.

Recent Events & Movies Reviews

There are so many things that happened since the last post I posted here. I watched some movies, meeting up some friends, Mother's Day celebration with family, my grandma's birthday, etc. I'm just too lazy to update it here. So sorry for my readers. Today, I take the initiative to blog here about all of that.

Mother's Day celebration was great. I think Mum enjoys her day as we brought her to Shogun Japanese Buffet Restaurant in One Utama. Well, we split the bills into 3, where my brother and me pay the biggest shares. Then, we went to get some facial product, where my sister and me shared to get my Mum some nail polish and some eye liner. I think she is happy with what we have done for her. What she is caring about was am I able to survive after all the splendid. Well, I told her not to worry. I'll sees how to manage my own finance. I think I ought to do that. LOL.

I went to Kluang, Johor for a sight seeing. I think it's kinda plain there but I did enjoy the trip there. I got to enjoy the beauty of nature, slightly lay back town. Although the food there is not that great and not so variety, but I think it's still not too bad. What can you expect in a small developing town? LOL. I did went to Zenxin Organic Park and tried the organic dragon fruit juice there. It's totally amazing and refreshing that I don't know how to describe it. You guys should try it if you have a chance. Some photos to share with you guys for the trip.

When I get back to KL, the very same day, it's my grandma's birthday celebration. We went to some restaurant near my grandma's place in Kepong. Actually, nothing much I can say regarding the celebration cause I'm not too close with the relative there myself accept for one of my cousin (Chun Kiet).
I think that's is all for now. I'll try to update my blog as often as I can.

CNY days and on...

Wow, it's been 11 days since CNY started on 26th of January this year. Another few days, on the 9th of February is the Chinese 'Chap Goh Mei' celebration. I wonder who will be going to throw mandarin oranges around looking for a partner. LOL. As I was joking with Voon Yuke that day, I said that she should be throwing oranges that day so that she can enjoy Valentime Day on the same week, 14th February, Saturday.

CNY is so tiring for me I guess. All my time was occupied last week for mostly relatives. It's either dinner here and there or lunch here and there. Doesn't really have much time for my ownself. The best thing during this period is that we get to take picture of the whole family. LOL. It can be seen in my Facebook too.

~I guess no need to explain, it's just my family~

~With this large crowd, I guess no need to explain either, it's "Tong's Family"~

After CNY, back to study this week. Plenty of things gotta do I guess. Still working on thesis, gotta start preparing for assignments and gotta start revising notes since mid-term is coming soon. There is still many other stuff to take care of as well. Hope I can manage my time for all of that. This Saturday got replacement class for Sociology for 6 hours straight. I guess gonna be crazy soon. Not to forget this Sunday I gotta attent a soft skill, "Thinking Out of the Box". Hope that I really gain something there as I don't wanna feel wasting time only. Feeling this week kinda pack for me.

The Dark Knight

The follow-up to the action hit "BATMAN BEGINS," "THE DARK KNIGHT" reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime.

With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger ("Brokeback Mountain") stars as arch-villain The Joker, and Aaron Eckhart plays District Attorney Harvey Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast in the role of Rachel Dawes. Returning from "Batman Begins" are Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Jim Gordon; Oscar winner Michael Caine ("The Cider House Rules") as Alfred; and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman ("Million Dollar Baby") as Lucius Fox.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Legendary Pictures, a Syncopy Production, a Christopher Nolan film, "THE DARK KNIGHT." Nolan directed the film from a screenplay written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan are the producers, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers. "THE DARK KNIGHT" is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Adapted from The Dark Knight website

Plot:
Batman and Lieutenant James Gordon contemplate including the new district attorney Harvey Dent in their plan to eradicate the mob, as he could be the public hero Batman cannot be. The mob bosses meet to discuss how to handle Batman, Gordon, and Dent, while a Chinese mobster accountant, Lau, lets the gang leaders know he has taken their money to Hong Kong to prevent the police and the district attorney from seizing it in an imminent bank raid. The Joker arrives unexpectedly, offering to kill Batman for pay.

Batman abducts Lau in Hong Kong and delivers him to the Gotham City police, so the mobsters agree to hire the Joker. The Joker tells all of Gotham that if the Batman does not turn himself in to the police, that more people will die each day. When the Joker begins killing public officials, including Commissioner Loeb and the judge presiding over the mob trials, Wayne decides to turn himself in to the police. Before he can do so, Dent announces that he is the Batman, to draw the Joker out of hiding. The Joker attempts to kill Dent, but Gordon and Batman intervene and arrest him. Following his arrest, a group of corrupt police officers hired by the Joker kidnap Dent and Dawes and take them to separate warehouses rigged with explosives.

Batman interrogates the Joker, who reveals that Rachel Dawes (Wayne's love interest) and Dent have been taken to opposite sides of the city. Batman speeds off to save Dawes, while Gordon and the police head after Dent. However, the Joker has switched the locations, sending Batman after Dent and Gordon after Dawes. Batman arrives at Dent's location in time to save him, but Dent sustains severe burns to the left side of his face. Dawes died in the explosion.

Dent is driven to madness over the loss of Dawes. The Joker frees Dent from the hospital and convinces him to exact revenge on the cops, mobsters, Gordon, and Batman. While Harvey "Two-Face" Dent confronts the corrupt cops and the mobsters one by one, flipping a coin to decide their fates, the Joker burns Lau along with the mob's money.

Batman locates the Joker and defeated him. Joker acknowledges that Batman really is incorruptible, but that Dent was not. Batman finds Two-Face holding Gordon and his family at the building where Dawes died. Two-Face shoots Batman in the stomach. Batman tackles him over the side of the building. As Dent lies motionless on the ground, Batman and Gordon realize the fallout and loss of morale the city would suffer if Dent's acts of murder became known. Batman convinces Gordon to blame him for the murders to preserve Dent's image. As Gordon destroys the Bat-Signal, a manhunt is issued for Batman.

Last evening, I went to Mid Valley with my sister and mum to watch this nice exciting movie. It's a great movie I personally think but then somehow the Joker character in that movie kinda psycho. He loves cutting people around. Craziest character.

The movie is a great one. The actors and actresses acting are undeniably good. Just that the actor that act as the Joker (Heath Ledger) died after acting for this movie. He is a great actor. Such a waste. This movie, you guys should watch it.

Fish Spa

Today, I just went for fish spa with my family at D'hati (Jusco outlet), Old Klang Road... It's the building with the Pearl International Hotel... I have tried once before last week or so but this time, I went with my family except my brother...

The big banner of the fish spa section

The fish spa here is reasonably cheap compare to most places that I've seen... For example, Kenko in Mid Valley, it's called Doctor Fish which the price is around Rm38 for 30 minutes if I'm not mistaken... It might be more than that... Well, in Pearl Point here, it's just RM20 for 20 minutes... If you purchase 5 times, they free 1 time more for you... Of course you don't compare the environment that you will get in Kenko to this...

I get my feet into the pool of fishes... It's kinda itchy...

Look at those fishes were actually sucking my feet... I barely recognize my own feet already...

The moment I put in my both legs into the pool of fishes, they started to swim to my feet and suck it... You will encounter the tickling sensation at first... I kinda can't stand the itchiness at first but then after a few minutes, you wouldn't really feel the itchiness anymore...

It was a nice experience for those that haven't try it before... What you will feel after doing the treatment? Well, I personally feel my feet is smoother and cleaner... It's just like a baby skin kinda foot I have now... LOL... If you tried any fish spa that is cheaper and worth it, do share it with me here...

32nd Bon Odori Festival

Yesterday, my family, Bryan and I went to Bon Odori festival in Shah Alam... It was the first time for all of them except for me to be in the festival... I drove there around 4.45pm from my place to Shah Alam... Since it was early, I arrived there kinda earlier too cause no jam... Although I reached there around 5.20pm, there was a huge crowd already... I think at least 30% of people that attended the festival last night was there at least when I arrived...

My mum who was the one that take a few fans rather than me myself or my sister although my sister wanna the fans so much... LOL... Feel like my mum also kinda sporting... Then we walked around the stalls areas... There was so much things selling there as usual... My mum brought some Yakult since it's cheaper there... Kinda all sort of promotion was there... We even brought some Berryl's chocolates, some Japanese potatoes chips and a loaf of bread that cost RM18... It's RM18 for a loaf of bread, imagine it... My mum wanna buy it because she said it is tasty so let her get whatever she wants... It's her money anyway... I just treat around the ice-cream that cost RM6 for each, takoyaki (octopus balls thingy which I can describe), Udon and Ika (squid)... Get some juices to drink as well...

I meet Jasper there and a girl from my university that I can't recall her name already... LOL.. Melissa, which I ought that she will be there as well as my imoutosan, Wynne were not to be seen there... Haiz... Nevermind... Maybe next year...

The things happening there I don't think I wanna talk much about it because it is the same old routine or events only... So ask me instead if you wanna know more about it if you never ever been to it before or ask around...

I think there is no need for me to explain this famous Bon Odori fan right?

The usual cultural dance stage

Two cute girls wearing yukata running around... I saw them a few times already... Kawaii the yukata...

Such a huge crowd even this early

My sister enjoying her udon

The drummers and the dancers were readying for the cultural dance...

The dance begin...

Mother's Day

Yesterday, a special day for all mother in the world... Perhaps in Malaysia first... Cause I get to know that Mother's Day are celebrated on different dates depending on which country you are in now... So yesterday, my sister, my brother and I celebrated it with my mum at 1U...

Actually nothing much we did for her... kinda out of budget that we have right now... Firstly, when we reached to 1U, we went to Shihlin Taiwan Snack there to take some snacks... LOL... My sis and me enjoyed the crispy chicken... My mum too... Of course, the outing yesterday was fully paid by the three of us...

After that snack, we went for bowling... My mum doesn't really wanna play but then she wanna watch us play and she plays if she wants to... She did play a bit, helping my sis to score a bit... My sis is a wonderful bowler... She can scores 0 for the entire half of the games without fail... LOL... Anyway, she is still young... The best thing was that I'm the winner of every match... LOL... I'm the great bowler in my family now...

We headed to Kenny Roger's Roasted Chicken for dinner... My mum didn't eat it for ages... i can;t recall how long but then i bet it must be years... LOL... It's my idea to eat there anyway... Cause I thought that my mum didn't eat there for ages... Good thought of mine i guess... Basically, we enjoyed the dinner that night... I'm so glad to see my mum so happy with it... I hope that she can keep up with her smile always... Hope that she will be with us forever... I love u, MUM!!! Muakz Muakz Muakz... LOL...

Hope that you guys spend a great time with your mother at this special day... Of course her birthday is important too... But this day is important as well... LOL... So don't forget her birthday too... I hope all mothers in this world have a happy and wonderful time with their children... Happt Mother's Day!!!

Qing Ming + Dinner with Family~

Yesterday, i woke up kinda early in the morning for Qing Ming (Chinese tradition of praying their ancestor)... Roughly around 7am, i drove my mum, my sister & my brother to the memorial site, which my father is located there... It's some where near to the Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka... Well, thinking back about him, it's already 12 years that my dad leave us... Kinda miss him... Some other relatives that passes away also cremated there... As usual, we served some food for prayer...

Then, the last stop, we went to the cemetery that my grandma is located... It's located kinda near to Tien Hao Temple in KL... I don't really know what is that area called... LOL... It's kinda interesting... First time i saw that there is some plant that grow around my grandma graveyard which somehow beautify it... However, for praying purposes, we can't just leave it like that... So we still plucked all these plant away...
This picture shows the plant that grows around the graveyard... Kinda amazing... Maybe my grandma wanna beautify her garden... Just kidding...

There were plenty of food served as well... I think more than what my mum served to my dad... There were fried chicken, roasted pork, some Chinese rice dumpling, 'fatt kou' (Chinese rice cake), & grapes...

This is the photo that i manage to take that time... Lotsa stuff served...

After the prayers, we went home and rest... Later in the evening, my whole family went out to 1 utama for dinner... Well, my mum treated me... It's kinda like celebrate my birthday... We ate at Pasta Zanmai... So, yesterday was kinda nice day... My sister got me chocolate cheesecake from secret recipes for me... Although she wasn't buying the whole cake, but then it is me my favourite cake...

My pasta set... This time, the bowl they served me is different compare to the bowl they used to serve me last time i visit there... Refer to my previous blog - ~Pasta Zanmai + Utar 19th Intervarsity Biochemistry Seminar**

Later in the evening, i went out with Thava and Boon Hein to Sunway Pyramid to catch a movie... I watched "L Change the World"... It's nice but then preferable you have watched Death Note the Last Name (the 2nd film for Death Note) so that you will kinda get the sequence of the story... Well, it's nice to meet them up again...

Overall rating: 7 ; Plot: 7 ; Casting: 8
